Coding Discrepancies

Most organizations have expert coders or sophisticated natural language processing (NLP) software that identities issues with billing before it’s too late. Once those issues are identified, the communication and workflow required to address them are typically time-consuming and imprecise manual procedures. As a result, revenues may be lost.

Billing staff lack an effective communication tool to document billing issues identified in diagnostic reports. The resolution of such issues is a manual, labor-intensive and time-consuming process, impacting productivity, jeopardizing billing efficiency and increasing errors. In addition, radiology sites lack a system for tracking the number, type, frequency and resolution of billing issues. This may allow the same errors to go continually undetected and uncorrected.
Using the peerVue Coding Discrepancies solution space, a coder (or integrated billing system) launches a panel that locates the radiologists involved in an error, alerts them of the problem and adds the discrepancy to their worklist for resolution. Billing discrepancies also are captured in a database and may be used to detect patterns of errors that can be addressed through training and used to drive quality improvement.
